Technology has come a long way.
We went from pagers– to a brick size cell phone –to the razor flip phone–to literally a touch screen phone! Insane, but cool right?!
That’s why staying up with technology is a must for businesses now and if you don’t, then it could play a bad move for your business.
This brings me to the importance of having a good converting website…
Websites is one those things that has to be on point when you have a business. Although, there’s a ton of businesses that do have websites, only a few are actually converting like they want from their sites.
Here’s how to make your site stand out and sell…
1. Your headline is everything
When people come to me saying that they have no idea why their site isn’t converting the way that they hoped for. I immediately take a look of it and can instantly point out that it’s the headline.
Most companies have headlines that are either too long or is just plain boring to read.
Make a catchy, but short headline.
Here’s an example for you; you sell sexy shoes on your site, a good headline would be “Get the expensive shoe you want, without the expensive part”
2. Use a strong call-to-action (CTA)
One thing is certain, we want our visitors to take action.
But often, a mistake that a lot of companies make when having websites is having too many CTA’s.
Barry Schwartz, author of “Paradox Of Choice” said that making decisions – both big and small – has become increasingly complex due to overwhelming abundance of choice with which we are presented.
This means that…
Adding lots of call-to-actions will not make people buy more from you.
Not only does it make you come off as desperate, but it’s hard for the customers to focus or your main offer. If you don’t want your visitors to leave your site and go to one of your competitors, that has a clearer message, then have one strong call-to-action.
Note: in some cases like your homepage it’s ok to add a secondary call to action below the fold.
3. Don’t blind people with colors
I remember going outside as a kid, playing sticks and stones with my cousin…
When out of nowhere a bright, yellow and black bumble bee appeared.
What do you think we did?
If you answered, “Took off and ran like bats out of hell” then you are correct.
I use this story to highlight the similarities between the bumble bee (and other dangerous and brightly colored creatures) and web pages.
Many instances, I would literally leave a website because the colors made it so hard for me to focus.
Colors that are too bright (examples: Neon) might cause someone to have an instant headache.
It’s important to choose the right colors that are not too hard on the eyes.
4. Upload smaller image files
You know how you go on a company’s website on your phone, and it takes FOREVER to load?
One of those issues can be the pictures and graphics on their site are simply not optimized to load quickly.
This results in 2 things:
- Bad user experience and load times
- Bad SEO (search engine) score from Google
So next time you want to style up your website with pictures and videos, consider the impact.
Don’t get me wrong, a converting website does need to have style, but it doesn’t need style to the point it takes forever to load.
Just think about how many sales that you are missing out on!
5. People are mostly mobile in today’s market
Do not be that person that pays over 1000 for a website, that can’t even be viewed on mobile or a tablet.
A TON of people uses their mobile phones now to go on websites, I’m one of them.
And it bugs the heck out of me when I can only view the site correctly from my computer and not on my mobile or tablet.
Be sure to optimize have your site accessible for mobile, tablet and desktop.
6. Remember to make it about them and not you
Your copywriting has to make it so that whatever it is that you’re selling, will solve the problem of your website’s visitors.
So many companies make it about themselves on their websites, and that’s why so many visitors leave.
When you get a copywriter, always tell them the benefits of what the individual will be getting from using your product/service.
BAM! I hope you enjoyed some of these tips on how to a website that’s made to get conversions.
